Northland FOOD ROAD TRIP | Kaimoana hotspots + Hidden French Patisserie in the Far North
If you're heading North, these are the spots you must call into! From fresh oysters and crispy mussel fritters to a hidden French patisserie in the Far North. We take you to the Old Packhouse Market in Keri Keri, to the factory shop of Bay of Islands Oysters and to La Patisserie in Waipapa.
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Bay of Islands Oysters, 5323 State Highway 1, Kawakawa 0210. Open 9-5pm daily. Half a dozen fresh oysters $14, half a dozen battered oysters and chips $22.
2. Mrs Miller's Mussel Fritters at the Old Packhouse Market, 505 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri 0293. Saturday Artisan and Grower's Market 8am-1:30pm. Mussel fritter $9

Cause I’m sure there’s lots we could all eat more of… AND I KNOW how careful and specific you two are with your word usage. Any idea why you say moorish - or is it more-ish as in you want more? I’d always assumed watching European/Engliah travelers that they were referring to the Moorish trade routes and those spices being part of what was being tasted… is it something totally different? Is that just in New Zealand? Don’t worry if you don’t know I was just even more curious after your answer…! 😄👋❤️

We forgot to bring our keep cups on this trip. We know we’re doing the best we can to promote and live a life that is environmentally friendly whilst trying to film content and look after a baby. All of Zadie’s food was in reusable stainless steel containers and to be honest I don’t have the capacity to take my own containers to carry a pie in whilst holding a baby and a camera. We make contributions in other ways for example utilising the bokashi system at home for all our food waste so that we only put out one rubbish bag a month or utilising our whole catch when we fish or subscribing to Wonky Box for our fruit and veg needs. I'm looking around for my next driving holiday and thinking about a trip from Cape Reinga to Bluff via highway 1. If you had a video with a nice itinerary - including stops for great seafood and meat pies, I'd be stoked. Just an idea. Maybe a collab with southern friends if need be.
Hi there. We filmed a series just like that a few years ago. We did the whole country in a camper van starting at the Cape and finishing in Bluff. Check out the videos. 300's across the board! Now on my must visit list. When I came to NZ in the 90's bbq was mystery meat pre-cooked sausages, skinny steaks and cremated chicken drumsticks. There are both an excellent seafood shack where I can get fried oysters, and a really good sweet shop that serves amazing cakes and pies. I had one of their apple pies with my morning coffee today. That's the way to start a Saturday! And seeing your smiling faces is a great way to end it.

Are you paid by these restaurants? Just wondering as we had a different experience at another you recommended. I love your reviews which arr great and each persons experience will be different. We went to Timmur which was nice but didn't have the pizzang from your review.
